Couple killed in same Bogura area 11 hours after bus crash left 7 dead

A couple riding a motorcycle were killed after a car struck their bike in Erulia, Bogura Sadar upazila, this afternoon, around 11 hours after a deadly bus crash in the same area.

The deceased were identified as Babul Hasan, 55, and his wife Jasmin, 45, residents of the Atapara area in Bogura town.

Ibrahim Ali, officer-in-charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station, told The Daily Star that Babul was riding towards Naogaon with his wife on the Naogaon-Bogura regional highway.

When they reached the area near the airport in Erulia around 4:30pm, a Bogura-bound car lost control after one of its front tyres burst and crashed into the motorcycle, he said.

Babul died on the spot, while Jasmin sustained critical injuries.

She was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, where doctors declared her dead, the OC said.

Police seized the car, but its driver managed to flee the scene.

The bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue, the police official added.

Earlier in the day, around 5:30am, a Naogaon-bound bus from Dhaka ploughed into a group of people in the same area, leaving seven people dead and 19 injured.
