Three of a family, including child, killed in Khulna road crash

Three members of a family, including a two-year-old, were killed and another was critically injured after a truck ran over their motorcycle in Khulna's Dighalia upazila on Friday night.

The accident occurred around 10:30pm in the Domra area under Gazirhat union.

The deceased were identified as Farzana Khatun, 35, wife of Sihab Sheikh of Kalia upazila in Narail; their two-year-old daughter, Maymuna; and Farzana's 16-year-old sister, Rubiya Khatun.

The motorcycle rider, Sihab Sheikh, 40, survived the crash but sustained critical injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

According to police, the family was travelling towards Narail via Rupsha when the crash occurred.

Md Shah Alom, officer-in-charge of Dighalia Police Station, said a truck travelling from Gazirhat towards Rupsha collided with the motorcycle in the Domra area.

"Both vehicles were reportedly trying to give way to each other when the accident occurred. The motorcycle went under the truck, killing the three on the spot," the OC said.

Police said further legal procedures are underway.
