After college student, pillion rider of bike hit by city corporation vehicle dies
Pillion rider of a motorbike died after a compactor vehicle of Dhaka North City Corporation hit him in Dhaka's Panthapath area this afternoon, a day after a Notre Dame College student died -- being hit by another such vehicle in Gulistan.
The deceased was identified as Ahsan Kabir Khan (50). He was a garment accessories trader and a former employee of the Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
The accident took place around 2:30pm when the DNCC vehicle hit the motorcycle, leaving Ahsan critically injured. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, Asaduzzaman, inspector (investigation) of Kalabagan Police Station told The Daily Star.
"Police seized the vehicle but its driver fled. DNCC is being contacted to find out who was driving the garbage truck. The CCTV footage of the street is being collected as well," he said.
"The deceased was in the pillion seat and the helmet he was wearing was of poor quality. The biker was also not found on the spot," added the police official.
"We chased after the garbage truck. But it sped away a bit further from the scene and stopped. Later, the driver and his assistant got out and we lost them in the crowd," Md Alam, an employee of the furniture market on Panthapath, where the incident happened, told this newspaper.
Yesterday, Nayeem Hasan, a student of Notre Dame College, died after a vehicle of DSCC hit him while crossing the road in Gulistan.
