SUST protest: Long march from Sylhet to Dhaka tomorrow
Bibekban Nagorik Samaj, a platform of civil society members, has announced a long march to Dhaka tomorrow from Sylhet demanding the resignation of Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed, vice-chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
The announcement came from a press release, issued by Bibekban Nagorik Samaj, sent to media this afternoon.
According to the press release, students are continuing their hunger strike demanding the resignation of VC Farid Uddin Ahmed. Many students fell ill after fasting for a long period. But none of the authorities concerned or the education minister on behalf of the government came forward to get the students to break their fast till now.
"Even, there was no assurance that their demands would be met. In this way, the students have come to the crossroads of life and death. Students are on hunger strike keeping their lives at risk. So, we should stand by them and express solidarity with their demands," it said.
In this context, if VC Farid Uddin Ahmed does not resign by today, Bibekban Nagorik Samaj will start a long march to Dhaka from Sylhet tomorrow, the release read.
A brief rally will be held in front of the Jatyiya Press Club in the capital at 10 am tomorrow on the occasion of the long march.
Internationally acclaimed photographer Shahidul Alam and Rahnuma Ahmed, a former professor in the Department of Anthropology at Jahangirnagar University, among others, signed in the press release.
