With the local government polls approaching, the Election Commission has banned posters for campaigning while allowing limited use of billboards for the first time in the electoral history of local bodies.

Three political parties registered with the Election Commission last year have violated its rules by failing to submit their annual audit reports, while four others registered in earlier years have also failed to comply.

The Election Commission plans to begin local government elections in the first week of October, starting with the haor and northeastern districts -- Sunamganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj and parts of Habiganj.

Twenty-seven of the 50 parties that contested February’s general election reported zero campaign expenditure, according to filings submitted to the Election Commission (EC).
