Bangladesh’s apparel exports to its two largest markets -- the European Union (EU) and the United States -- declined sharply in the first five months of 2026 as weaker global demand reduced export volumes and prices.

Garment export from Bangladesh may witness a strong rebound from May as suppliers are receiving a lot of inquiries from international buyers as the global economy recovers from the severe fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

The United States has urged Bangladesh to take action to address the export of counterfeit clothing items from the second-largest garment supplier to the world’s largest economy.
