Department of Environment yesterday sealed off a paper mill in Chattogram’s Khulshi area on charge of polluting the Halda, possibly the only breeding ground of natural Carp in South Asia.

The Environment department orders Asian Paper Mill to shut down for polluting a water body that drains into the Halda river in Chattogram.

A peaking power plant in Hathazari has been ordered to suspend operation after officials found that it had been polluting the Halda river.

The power plant of Chattogram responsible for releasing untreated furnace oil to a nearby water body that connects to the Halda river is fined Tk 20 lakh for damaging the environment.
