Lin, who along with Algerian boxer Imane Khelif was embroiled in a gender row at the Paris Olympics, was due to compete in the World Boxing Cup Finals in Sheffield starting Wednesday.

Reports published in France this week claimed Khelif, 25, has XY, or male, chromosomes.

Khelif was the centre of a gender controversy at the Olympics on her way to the women's 66kg title.

"It's Algeria's victory," her father, Omar Khelif, told reporters as he watched the fight on a giant screen along with the rest of the village around 300 kilometres (185 miles) southwest of Algiers.
