3 killed, 15 injured as two buses collide on Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway

Three people were killed and at least 15 others injured when two buses collided on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in Madaripur's Shibchar today.

The accident occurred around 3:30pm in the Bakhrerkandi area of the expressway, said MM Muntasir Mahmud, inspector of Shibchar Highway Police Station.

He told The Daily Star over the phone that the three victims died on the spot when the buses collided.
Police, locals and Fire Service personnel rescued the injured and took them to various private hospitals, including those in Shibchar, where they were undergoing treatment.

The bodies were recovered and kept at a hospital. Police could not identify the deceased till the filing of this report.

Both buses involved in the crash have been seized, said the police official.

According to Shibchar highway police and local sources, a Dhaka-bound Palki Paribahan bus suffered a flat tyre around 3:00pm in the Pacchar area of Shibchar and was parked on the side of the expressway for repairs.

At that time, a passenger-packed Dhaka-bound Hanif Paribahan bus rammed the Palki Paribahan bus from behind, leaving both vehicles mangled.
