Four killed as bus, private car collide in Munshiganj

Four people were killed and another was critically injured in a collision between a bus and a private car on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Gajaria upazila of Munshiganj.

The accident took place at Jamaldi bus stand area around 2:30pm today.

Three of the deceased were passengers in the car. They were identified as Mujibur Rahman, 55; Shamima Akhter, 45; and Sabiha Chowdhury, 43. The other deceased was Sohel, the car driver.

Muhammad Shafikul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the collision occurred between a Chattogram-bound bus of New Boleshwar Paribahan and a Dhaka-bound car.

Upon receiving the news, two rescue units from the Gajaria Fire Station rushed to the spot. They recovered the body of the car driver and handed it over to the highway police. The injured passengers were taken to hospital, where three of them were declared dead.

The other injured person was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment in critical condition, he added.
