IO changed in Oprotim murder case

The investigation officer (IO) in the murder case of 13-year-old Ishiat Shahriar Oprotim in Cumilla has been changed.

Rajib Ahmed, inspector (investigation) of Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station, has taken over from Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam, said Md Lutfur Rahman, additional superintendent of Cumilla police, yesterday.

Police sources said the IO was changed on instructions of higher authorities, considering the case’s importance. Rajib said he hoped to complete investigation quickly and submit the charge sheet to the court.

Oprotim, a Class 7 student at Cumilla Border Guard High School, was the only child of Comilla University teacher Nahida Begum and businessman KM Firoz Shahriar.

He was found dead in a hilly jungle in the Sananda area near the university on September 19, a day after leaving his home in the Kotbari area of Cumilla to take photographs with his mother’s iPhone.

Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said three of the four teenaged suspects arrested over the murder have given confessional statements.

“However, we are investigating whether anyone else was involved in the incident,” he said.
