Saifuddin ruled out of Asian Games

Bangladesh pace-bowling all-rounder Mohammed Saifuddin has been ruled out of the cricket event at the 20th Asian Games due to a right hamstring injury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed in a release on Monday.

Saifuddin complained of pain in his right hamstring while bowling during a practice session on September 19. A physical examination and subsequent MRI confirmed the injury, according to national team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan.

“He will require approximately three weeks of rehabilitation to recover,” Bayjedul said.

The BCB has informed the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) of Saifuddin’s unavailability for the Asian Games and will name a replacement, subject to approval from the Games authority.

“We haven’t determined any replacement yet. We will be discussing with BOA, but we will have to name a player from within the preliminary squad,” BCB chief selector Habibul Bashar told The Daily Star on Monday.
