For the past 18 years, Aleya Begum, 52, has worked to prevent suicides in Jhenaidah. Going from home to home, she counsels people in distress and holds courtyard meetings with women, encouraging them to face hardship rather than give up on life.

At 83, Razia Samad Dahlia, known as “Dahlia Khalamoni”, continues to serve the poor, sick and vulnerable in Sherpur, where locals affectionately call her “Sherpur’s Mother Teresa”.

Ayesha Akhter, 31, was born without hands in Kachua Bazar village of Gaibandha’s Saghata upazila. Many came from afar to see her, with some even suggesting she be given a mercy death.

Laboni Akhter, 29, an entrepreneur from Shariatpur, began farming laboratory mice in 2024 with just Tk 2,500.

Suria Begum, 51, has trained girls in football, cricket, hockey and kabaddi in Jhenaidah for over a decade. A sports teacher at Fajer Ali Girls School and College, she provides the training free of cost.
