20 shops gutted in Jashore market fire

At least twenty shops were gutted in a fire at Zila Parishad Market in Jashore town early today.

The fire broke out around 12am, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Kamaluddin Bhuiyan, assistant director of Jashore Fire Service and Civil Defense.

Four units of fire fighters brought the blaze under control after two hours of effort, the fire service official said.

No casualties were reported in the incident. However, the fire in the market, that has remained closed for last seven days due to the government imposed restrictions, caused losses worth around Tk 1 crore, traders claimed.

The cause of the fire could not be determined yet, Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said.
