Younus elected chairman of Islamic Banks Consultative Forum

Mohammed Younus, chairman of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC, has been elected chairman of the Islamic Banks Consultative Forum (IBCF) for a two-year term.

Badiur Rahman, chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC, has been elected senior vice-chairman, while Zahir Hussain, an executive director of Bangladesh Bank who is currently serving as chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, has also been elected vice-chairman, according to a press release issued Thursday.

They were elected at the 67th meeting of the IBCF at the head office of Shahjalal Islami Bank in Dhaka on Wednesday. Younus presided over the meeting. The forum elected its new executive committee in line with its memorandum and articles of association.

Representatives of member banks attended the meeting, including Md Nurun Newaz, chairman of NCC Bank PLC; Quazi Shairul Hassan, chairman of Sammilito Islami Bank PLC; Ferozur Rahman, chairman of Standard Islami Bank PLC; and Md Sanaullah Shahid, chairman of the executive committee of Shahjalal Islami Bank.

Managing directors and senior officials from member banks also attended the meeting.

They included Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, managing director of Shahjalal Islami Bank; Mohd Rafat Ullah Khan, managing director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank; Abedur Rahman Sikder, managing director of Sammilito Islami Bank; and Md Altaf Hossain, acting managing director of Islami Bank Bangladesh.

Officials from Standard Islami Bank, Dhaka Bank, Prime Bank and Bank Asia also attended the meeting.

Nurul Islam Khalifa, honorary secretary of the IBCF, and Jahangir Alam, assistant secretary of the forum, were also present.
