Dhaka theatre festival closes with nine productions

The second phase of the Dhaka Theatre Festival concluded on Monday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, completing a nine-day programme featuring nine theatre productions.

Organised by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) under its “Hridoye Dhaka 416” programme, the second phase ran from September 6 to 14 at the National Theatre Hall and featured productions by nine theatre groups. The festival aimed to highlight Dhaka’s 416-year history, heritage and culture.

The productions were Prachyanat’s “Kinu Kaharer Thetar”, Lok Natyadal (Banani)’s “Konjus”, Dhaka Padatik’s “Trial of Surya Sen”, Bashori Repertory Theatre’s “Aleya”, Aranyak Natyadal’s “Company”, Theatre Art Unit’s “Amina Sundori”, Teerondaz Repertory’s “Konthonalit-te Surjo”, Drishtipat Natya Dal’s “Se Ek Swapner Raat” and Bangladesh Theatre’s “Sea-Morog”.

The first phase ran from August 16 to 23 at the Zahir Raihan Cultural Centre auditorium in Sutrapur. It featured eight days of theatre and cultural programmes.

DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam attended the closing ceremony as chief guest, while DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Khaybar Rahman chaired the event. Participating theatre groups received commemorative crests, certificates and gifts.
