Kabir-Lalon spiritual music festival held in Sherpur
A Kabir-Lalon spiritual music festival for the Mymensingh division was held at the Sherpur District Shilpakala Academy auditorium today, September 25, drawing a large audience.
Organised by Lalon Bishwasangha with support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the festival is being held across all eight divisions under the slogan, “Great spiritual music is nourishment for the non-violent human soul, while violent extremism is an enemy of humanity.”
The festival began on September 11 and will continue until October 30.
Veteran Baul artiste Tara Mia, vice-president of Bangladesh Baul Samity, inaugurated the fourth divisional festival in Sherpur.
Dr Sunsila Jabrin Priyanka, MP, attended the programme as chief guest, while ABM Mamunur Rashid Palash, administrator of Sherpur District Council, was present as special guest.
In his inaugural speech, Tara Mia said people continue to listen to the spiritual songs of Kabir and Lalon wholeheartedly, whether or not they fully understand their meanings, as the songs offer nourishment to the peaceful and non-violent human soul.
“Those who promote violent extremism attack Bauls and obstruct spiritual music programmes. They are enemies of humanity,” he said.
“Kabir and Lalon were both soldiers of love. Through their devotion to love, they won the hearts of people around the world. As long as human civilisation exists, their timeless messages will remain an enduring treasure in human hearts. No force has been able to destroy them, and none ever will,” Tara Mia added.
Sherpur Nrityakala Kendra Director Kamol Kanti Par, social worker Razia Samad Dalia, Sherpur Model Girls Degree College Principal Md Sarwar Jahan Tapan, and Sherpur Press Club President Md Abdur Rafiq Majid, among others, participated in the discussion.
Abdel Mannan, chief executive of Lalon Bishwasangha, chaired the programme.
Artistes of the Kabir-Lalon Musical Mission presented a musical performance titled “From Kabir to Lalon: An Eternal Bridge of Love”.
According to the organisers, the Rajshahi divisional festival will be held on October 2 at the Lalon Shah Open Stage on the banks of the Padma River.
Masud Chowdhury, a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Rajshahi University, will inaugurate the event. Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, is scheduled to attend as chief guest, while Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Md Mahfuzur Rahman Riton will be present as special guest.
