‘Abar Hothat Brishti’ to hit cinemas in October

The 1998 classic “Hothat Brishti” is returning to the big screen in a new version, titled “Abar Hothat Brishti”, with newcomers Arian Sarowar and Radifa Narmin in the lead roles.

Directed by Kamruzzaman, the remake is scheduled to be released in cinemas across Bangladesh on October 2, according to the filmmaker. The film has already received clearance from the Bangladesh Film Certification Board.

The original “Hothat Brishti”, directed by Indian filmmaker Basu Chatterjee, first reached Bangladeshi audiences through a World Television Premiere on Channel i during Eid-ul-Adha in 1998. It was subsequently released in cinemas and became a major success. The Bangladesh-India joint production starred Ferdous Ahmed and Priyanka Trivedi in the lead roles. 

“Abar Hothat Brishti” retains the original story while updating its setting and presentation for contemporary audiences. The new film is jointly produced by Ashirbad Chalachchitra and Impress Telefilm. 

Speaking about the remake, director Kamruzzaman said recreating a much-loved film was a major challenge. He said the team had approached the project with contemporary audiences in mind and had changed the locations and setting while retaining the original story.

Arian Sarowar, who takes on the role previously played by Ferdous, said he watched the original several times before filming. He said he drew inspiration from Ferdous’ performance but did not attempt to imitate him, instead working according to the director’s instructions and developing the character in his own way. 

Radifa Narmin plays the female lead, taking on the role originally portrayed by Priyanka Trivedi. The cast also includes Azad Abul Kalam, Farzana Chhobi, Kristiano Tanmoy, Kayes Arzu, Mou Khan and Jhuna Chowdhury, among others. 

The original “Hothat Brishti” was jointly produced by Bangladesh’s Ashirbad Chalachchitra and India’s Gramco Films. The remake brings Ashirbad Chalachchitra together with Impress Telefilm as co-producers.
