Twin siblings drown in Munshiganj pond

Two twins drowned in a pond in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj this afternoon while visiting their maternal grandparents.

The incident occurred around 1:30pm today in Jasimuddin village under Baluchar union, police and family sources said.

Family said the siblings went to play by the pond beside the house. One fell into the water, and the other drowned while trying to rescue the first. Locals later pulled them out and rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Their maternal grandfather Kashem Mia told reporters that the children had gone unnoticed to play near the pond.

Sub-Inspector Md Selim Hossain, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the twins were brought to the hospital around 2:30pm, where the on-duty physician declared them dead.

Police will prepare an inquest report before handing over the bodies to relatives.
