Woman dies as DNCC garbage truck hits her

A woman was killed after being run over by a Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) garbage truck in Dhaka’s Korail area yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Meherun Begum, 50, of Sherpur in Mymensingh, said police.

The accident happened beside the T&T field in Beltala area of the Korail slum in Mohakhali, said Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station.

He said Meherun used to collect recyclable materials from the city corporation’s secondary transfer station (STS).

“She had hearing difficulties and could not hear the truck horn. As a result, she was run over by the vehicle’s rear wheel,” the officer said.

Meherun was declared dead at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Her husband, Badsha, is a van driver. The couple lived in a rented house near the T&T field in Mohakhali.
