Govt selects 92 cops for 2025 medals

The government has selected 92 police personnel for four categories of medals in recognition of bravery, exemplary service, investigation of important cases and other notable work, with the honours awarded for 2025.

According to a home ministry notification yesterday, 12 personnel have been selected for the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM), 18 for BPM-Service, 18 for the President’s Police Medal (PPM), and 44 for PPM-Service.

The recognition covers their work between March 1, 2025 and February 28, 2026.

Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir is among the 12 selected for the BPM. He got the award for his contribution in a Rohingya camp as an Additional IG of APBn.

Late Subedar Md Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan of Rab-7, Patenga, Chattogram, has been selected for the BPM posthumously. Motaleb, a deputy assistant director of Rab-7, was killed on January 19 this year when a Rab team, now the Special Response Battalion, came under attack during an operation to arrest armed criminals in Jungle Salimpur of Sitakunda, Chattogram.

Among those selected for the BPM-Service are Additional IGP Md Mostafa Kamal of the Police Bureau of Investigation, Additional IGP Md Rezaul Karim of Naval Police, DIG Md Abu Mamud of Rangpur Range, and Mohammad Shamsul Haque, additional police commissioner of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The PPM and PPM-Service lists include officers and personnel from different police units, ranges and districts across the country.

The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Nasrin Sultana by order of the president, said it would take effect from the date of issuance.
