BNP leader Idris Mia appointed Chattogram Wasa chairman
Mohammad Idris Mia, convener of the Chattogram South District unit of BNP, has been appointed chairman of Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) for a three-year term.
The Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued a notification today, appointing Idris under Section 7(1) of the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Amendment) Act.
Idris is the convener of the 54-member Chattogram South District BNP convening committee formed in February 2025. He previously served as chairman of Patiya Zilla Parishad.
His appointment comes after the government appointed two other BNP leaders to key institutions in Chattogram in recent months.
In June, Belayet Hossain, a former joint convener of the BNP's Chattogram North District unit, was appointed chairman of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) for one year.
In July, Mohammad Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, BNP's Chattogram divisional organising secretary, was appointed full-time administrator of the Chattogram Zilla Parishad.
