‎Tigresses through to Asiad last 4 courtesy of rankings after China game washed out

Bangladesh women’s cricket team qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing Asian Games 2026 after their quarterfinal against China was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to wet outfield at Korogi Sports Park in Japan on Thursday.

‎Umpires inspected the ground thrice on the day after the rain stopped but as the ground was not ready to hold a match, they declared the match washout and thus Bangladesh qualify for the last four owing to their better rankings, according to tournament bylaws.

‎Bangladesh are currently ranked 10th in the world, while China are 36th.

‎The Tigresses are likely to face India in the semifinal on September 20. India will face hosts Japan in their quarterfinal tomorrow.

‎The Tigresses have featured in three previous editions of the Asian Games, winning two silver medals and one bronze. They made their debut in Guangzhou in 2010 and claimed silver before repeating the feat in Incheon in 2014. Bangladesh then won bronze in Hangzhou in 2022 after defeating Pakistan.

‎In Thursday's other quarterfinal, Pakistan will face Thailand, with the winner set to meet either Sri Lanka or Malaysia in the semifinals.
