Federation Cup openers deferred by a day

Two of the three opening day matches of the 2026-27 Federation Cup involving Rahmatganj MFS, Brothers Union, Chattogram City FC and Abahani have been deferred by a day, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) said in a press release on Tuesday.

The two matches, originally scheduled for today, will now be played tomorrow at 3:00pm at the same venues.

Rahmatganj will face Brothers Union at Manikganj Stadium, while Chattogram City FC will take on Abahani at Munshiganj Stadium.

The only match that will kick off as scheduled is the one between Fortis FC and Fakirerpool Young Men's Club in Gopalganj.

Abahani's Fed Cup opener hangs in balance amid fixture row

The postponement of the two matches came amid a growing fixture dispute involving several clubs over the BFF's handling of schedule changes ahead of the national team's participation in the FIFA ASEAN Cup.

Abahani and Brothers Union had protested to the federation over its decision to reschedule two of Mohammedan Sporting Club's fixtures at the latter's request. Mohammedan had sought changes because nine of their players were included in the Bangladesh national squad for the ASEAN Cup, and the BFF approved the request on September 20.

Abahani subsequently requested changes to their own Federation Cup and Bangladesh Football League fixtures, citing the absence of four players who had joined the national team camp, with two later suffering injuries. Brothers Union, meanwhile, questioned what they described as an inconsistent approach by the federation.
