Kane's 100: The numbers behind a Bundesliga record 49 years in the making
Harry Kane's Bundesliga century arrived in two very different ways. First came a penalty. Fifteen minutes later, a header.
The two goals took him to 101 Bundesliga goals in 98 games, and past a record that had stood for 49 years.
Kane became the fastest player in Bundesliga history to reach 100 goals when he converted from the spot against Union Berlin on Friday. Dieter Muller had needed 129 games for Cologne in 1977.
Kane did it 31 games faster.
The number 98, however, only tells part of the story. His scoring rate in Germany has been extraordinary. Bundesliga figures put him at a goal every 78.5 minutes, ahead of Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski and Gerd Müller in the same comparison.

Gerd Muller is the Bundesliga's all-time leading scorer with 365 goals. Lewandowski, one of the competition's most prolific modern strikers, needed 168 games to reach 100.
Kane needed 70 fewer.
Ronaldo still has the fastest century
Kane's 98-game run is the fastest in Bundesliga history, but not the quickest century in Europe's big five leagues.
That belongs to Cristiano Ronaldo, who reached 100 La Liga goals in just 92 games for Real Madrid in 2012.

Johnny Campbell's mark is particularly striking. The Scotsman reached 100 English top-flight goals in 102 games in 1894, with only two penalties among them.
More than a century later, Erling Haaland reached 100 in 111 appearances.
Kane sits between those two statistical eras.
The England captain had already reached 100 Premier League goals for Tottenham in 141 appearances.
His Bundesliga century came in 98. That is a difference of 43 games.
Yet the two centuries have an intriguing similarity: exactly 88 of his first 100 goals in each league came inside the box.

The biggest change is from the spot. Kane scored 25 penalties among his first 100 Bundesliga goals, compared with 14 in his first Premier League century.
Kane's Bundesliga record has not been built on one extraordinary season.
His first three campaigns:
2023-24: 36 goals in 32 games
2024-25: 26 goals in 31 games
2025-26: 36 goals in 31 games
He has added three goals in his first four league appearances this season to reach 101.
His 36-goal debut season was a Bundesliga record for a player's first campaign in the competition. He then matched the total in 2025-26.
Only Gerd Muller had previously scored more than 35 goals in multiple Bundesliga seasons.
Kane has scored against 21 different Bundesliga opponents.
Stuttgart have conceded the most, with 10, followed by Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen on eight each.
Augsburg, RB Leipzig and Union Berlin have each conceded seven.
There is one notable blank: Schalke.
Kane has faced them once without scoring.
11 hat-tricks
Kane has also scored 11 Bundesliga hat-tricks, already fifth on the competition's all-time list:

His longest Bundesliga scoring streak is five games, achieved three times.
His longest scoreless run is also five.
The difference is that Kane has repeatedly turned quiet spells into another burst of goals.
The 100-goal record is now Kane's.
The next landmark is 200.
Gerd Muller reached 200 Bundesliga goals in 234 appearances, the fastest anyone has done it.
Kane has 99 more goals to find. To beat Müller's pace, he would need to score them in fewer than 136 more games.
That is a considerably bigger challenge.
For now, though, the number that matters is 98.
