Habib Bank celebrates 50 years in Bangladesh

Habib Bank Limited (HBL), the Pakistan’s largest commercial bank, has celebrated 50 years of operations in Bangladesh, marking five decades of partnership with the country and its businesses.

Since commencing operations in Bangladesh in 1976, HBL has grown alongside its customers, supporting trade, investment and financial flows and connecting businesses across markets.

To mark the occasion, HBL hosted celebrations in Dhaka attended by clients, regulators, business leaders and senior executives.

Sultan Ali Allana, chairman of HBL, inaugurated the celebrations, according to a press release.

Over the past five decades, HBL has built a strong presence in Bangladesh, supporting businesses and financial institutions in domestic and international markets.

The bank said its international network provides a distinctive proposition for businesses in Bangladesh.

HBL is one of three banks from the South Asia and MENA regions to offer end-to-end RMB intermediation in China.

HBL Beijing, its second branch and managing branch in China, and its Urumqi branch are equipped with foreign exchange and RMB licences to facilitate customers’ requirements in multiple currencies.

The bank’s presence in China also enables it to interact with state-owned enterprises and leading financial institutions involved in CPEC and across Belt and Road Initiative corridors.

Moreover, HBL’s customers in Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the UAE, Kenya and other countries can experience the benefits of HBL’s best-in-class products and services in their respective countries and in China.

Fifty years on, HBL remains committed to Bangladesh and supporting clients as they pursue new opportunities and expand across markets. The bank will continue to leverage its regional network and capabilities to support Bangladesh’s next phase of growth.
