We often see unconventional art that keeps us wondering just how many dimensions an artist can reach through their art.

Halloween has gradually moved away from its original history and functions mainly as a platform for self-expression, where creativity in costume, makeup, and design takes precedence. Here is a look at where Halloween events, parties, and themed gatherings are taking place across Dhaka this year.

They emerge from social injustices, unfulfilled desires, and forgotten histories, and in their persistence, they remind us that the supernatural is often an allegory for the very real.

On a mild autumn evening after work, I once again found myself drawn to Bhumi Gallery to witness the magnificent art pieces that beautifully adorned its intimate spaces. Curated by Saiful Islam Lenin, “Dreamweaver” is a group exhibition showcasing the imaginative visions of 12 emerging Bangladeshi artists. “Boloy” is an intellectual drama about conscience and escape. It stages an extended encounter among three archetypal figures — a politician, a scientist, and a theologian — each trapped in the competing claims of politics, society, religion and power. All three, unable to resolve their inner conflicts, turn to a psychiatrist in search of liberation from doubt and contradiction.

This year’s lineup includes Pagla Bablu, Razzak Baul, Samir Baul, Arif Baul, Suchona Shelly, Dolly Mondol, and Eliza Putul, who will perform timeless Lalon songs. Instrumental support will come from Saidul on harmonium, Bhuttu Baul on dotara, Suman Baul on tabla, and Arif on flute.

Galerie Zoom at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) inaugurated a solo art exhibition by Sadrul Rafi titled “In Search of Peace” on October 17, 2025. The event was graced by Ekushey Padak–winning artist Professor Shahjahan Ahmed Bikash, who praised Rafi’s artistic finesse and the depth of his imagination.

The festival will open on Thursday evening with “Kangaler Joto Kotha”, a special presentation featuring songs, poems, and plays written by Kheyali’s founder AKA Kabir.
