Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC (CBC) Bangladesh Operations recently organised a full-day awareness and regulatory compliance session on anti-money laundering, combating the financing of terrorism and trade-based money laundering.

The session, held at Sheraton Dhaka, was arranged for members of the bank’s management committee and senior leadership to strengthen governance and promote a strong compliance culture across its operations, according to a press release.

Tivanka Damunupola, chief executive officer of CBC Bangladesh Operations, inaugurated the programme and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to preventing money laundering and the financing of terrorism, sound governance and responsible banking.

Officials from Bangladesh Bank’s Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Department conducted the session. They included Md Mehedi Hasan, additional director, and Md Jamal Hossen and Md Atikur Rahaman, both joint directors.

The workshop covered regulatory developments and emerging compliance risks. A dedicated session on trade-based money laundering addressed common trade-related money laundering methods, red flags, early risk identification, proper documentation and regulatory reporting requirements.

The programme was organised under the oversight of the bank’s anti-money laundering compliance division. The bank said the initiative reflects its continued investment in institutional expertise and its zero-tolerance approach to money laundering and financial crime.
