‘AI is coming, but people want real things’ Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has said artificial intelligence will have an impact on the film industry, but audiences will continue to want to see real things on screen.

Speaking at a BAFTA “Life in Pictures” event in London on Monday, Cruise reflected on his four-decade career and the future of cinema.

Asked about AI and its impact on filmmaking, Cruise said, “There is nothing like human.”

The actor said he believes people still value the experience of watching films in cinemas and that theatrical releases bring audiences together.

“I always believe in humanity,” Cruise said, adding that filmmakers should keep creating.

“You know, it is coming and it’s going to happen,” he said of AI. “But people want to see real things.”

Cruise also spoke about his upcoming film “Digger”, directed by Alejandro G Iñárritu. He plays a wealthy oil tycoon in the film and said prosthetics and a fat suit took around six hours to apply.

“I’ve never read a movie like this,” Cruise said. “It’s the most original film and one of the most moving films I’ve ever seen.”
